Choosing the Right Bird Gard

It is extremely important to fully protect your entire crop from birds.  Any areas not fully protected will allow birds to begin feeding at the fringes of the sound coverage.  They will soon become bolder and learn the sounds are nothing to fear.  This will cause the effectiveness to diminish.  Complete Bird Gard coverage forces birds to leave the area entirely.

Bird Gard has a variety of products to repel birds from 1 acre to thousands of acres.  Choosing the right one depends on a number of factors:

• Birds typically feed from the perimeter of the crop and work their way in. Place Bird Gard Super units so the sound protection covers all the way to the edges of the crop.  For larger crops Super Pro Amp units should be positioned 500-600 feet inside the crop and spaced every 1,200 feet around the perimeter.
• Mount the Speaker at least 5 feet above terrain, crops, trees and other obstacles.
• Placing the Bird Gard unit on top of a hill or small rise will give you much better coverage than at the bottom of a valley.  The greater the height the further the sounds will travel. 
• Wind can blow the sound waves.  If the area you need to protect has consistent wind coming from the same direction, position your Bird Gard Super Pro Amp more “upwind.”
• Trees surrounding crops provide birds with a safe perch that allows them to fly in, grab food and fly out.  It is much more difficult to eliminate bird damage if the birds are able to use the surrounding trees as a staging area for attacks on your crops.  Your Super Pro Amp should be positioned close to any trees bordering your crops.  If birds are roosting in the trees at night the TIME OF OPERATION should be set to 24 HOUR.
• Lakes, rivers and wetlands are a favorite resting and hiding place for birds.  Your Super Pro Amp should be placed so the sound thoroughly covers any areas where birds frequent.
• Neighbors, businesses and others may not appreciate hearing the bird sounds.  At the limits of the effective range the sounds from your Bird Gard Super Pro Amp are at a level people may find annoying.  Avoid placing the unit where it becomes a nuisance.
• If birds have no other food source in the area, more effort will be needed to drive them away.  This may mean more speakers or higher power.
• Type of birds- Most nuisance birds communicate at the higher end of the audio spectrum (2,000-10,000hz). Larger birds like wild turkey, geese, herons and rooks only respond to the lower frequency sounds (500-5,000hz) of the Bird Gard Super Pro PA4.

Maintenance Free Bird Deterrent

All Bird Gard products operate on either 110/240-volt current or 12-volt battery (except Bird Gard Super Pro Amp which is 12-volt only).  Optional solar panels reduce or eliminate the need to periodically recharge the 12-volt batteries.  The solid-state electronics never wear out.  Simply spray the switches, sockets and speaker jacks with white lithium grease or silicon at the beginning and end of the season.
